A man who was trying to row solo from Peru to Sydney has been rescued off the coast of New South Wales.
Alex Bellini, 30, was about 65 nautical miles off the mid-northern coast on Friday afternoon when he called his wife to say he was exhausted.
The ABC reports a boat and a plane were sent to search for him, but police say a New Zealand-registered tug, the Katea, was in the area and picked him up.
The Katea arrived in Newcastle around 9am (AEDT) on Saturday. ABC Radio reported Mr Bellini was looking thin and had a long beard and hair, but was otherwise in good spirits.
He said his main priority now was to eat, sleep and spend time with his wife.
