Six killed in Oslo blaze

7:49 am on 14 December 2008

Six people died and at least 12 were hurt in a fire in an Oslo apartment building on Saturday.

Firefighters were alerted at 3.43am and said 33 people were rescued from the building.

It belongs to a real estate developer, one of Norway's wealthiest people.

As many as 24 people were reportedly taken to hospitals or emergency rooms after being evacuated.

Last month, seven Polish workers died when the building they were housed in, burned down in Drammen, about 40km west of Oslo.

The fire was the deadliest in Norway in more than 20 years.
