Air drop of supplies to be made in Queensland

10:45 am on 8 January 2010

Longreach Council will begin flying supplies into isolated properties in central-west Queensland on Friday.

Longreach and surrounding areas have had more than 200mm of rain since Christmas Day. The ABC reports rivers are flooded, cutting roads and rail networks.

Council chief executive Michelle McFadyen says six properties will receive supplies of basic stapes on Friday: bread, milk and fruit and vegies, plus baby formula for a number of properties where there are small children and babies.

Ms McFadyen says some isolated properties still have their Christmas Day guests and are starting to run low on items.
