UK flood warning as snow thaws

12:04 pm on 16 January 2010

Flooding is possible this weekend in parts of Britain from heavy rain and melting snow.

The Environment Agency said there was a risk of some localised flooding, especially in Wales and west England.

The Met Office expects heavy rain from the west accompanied by strong to gale force winds on Saturday.

The Environment Agency has 15 flood watches in place. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued five "flood watch" notices north of the border.

The BBC reports temperatures are expected to fall again next week, bringing a risk of more snow and ice.
