Thousands of people attended a concert in Sydney on Saturday night aimed at uniting Australians and Indians.
The ABC reports there has been tension recently following a spate of violence against Indian students.
That intensified earlier this month when an Indian student, 21, was fatally stabbed in Melbourne.
The concert was designed to promote Australia as a safe and ethnically diverse nation. It was headlined by Slumdog Millionaire composer A R Raman.
