Author J.D. Salinger dies at 91

American author J.D. Salinger has died in New Hampshire at the age of 91, his agent has said.

Salinger wrote the American literary classic The Catcher in the Rye.

The author had spent much of his life hiding in the small town of Cornish, secluded from the fame brought him by the novel, published in 1951.

He published only a few books and collections of short stories in his literary career, including 9 Stories, Franny and Zooey, Raise High the Roofbeam Carpenters and Seymour - An Introduction.
