Egypt has arrested 25 men suspected of plotting attacks against Israeli tourists on American ships in the Suez canal.

The ABC reports they were arrested on charges of stockpiling weapons and explosives for apparent attacks on targets inside Egypt.

They are accused of formed a new Islamic militant group whose targets included Israeli tourists and the tomb of a 19th century Jewish rabbi in the Nile delta.

Egyptian media reports say the group also planned to ship weapons and explosives to Palestinian militants in Gaza for use in rockets that are fired into Israel.
