Bombs washed ashore along Istraeli coast

Police are searching beaches along the southern coast of Israel after two barrels packed with explosives washed ashore.

The BBC reports one of the containers was detonated on a beach in the southern city of Ashkelon late on Monday

Israeli sources say the devices were part of an operation against Israeli ships.

An Islamic jihad brigade has claimed responsibility for the attempt, in association with two other groups.

They say they planned the attacks as revenge for the killings of a senior Hamas commander, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, in Dubai, and other Palestinians.
