Two people were killed and six injured when giant waves hit a cruise ship in the Mediterranean.

Louis Cruises said three "abnormally high" waves broke windows in the front of the ship off the coast of north-east Spain on Wednesday. They were eight metres high.

The Louis Majesty was heading to Genoa on a 12-day Mediterranean cruise, but has now returned to Barcelona.

The ship was carrying 1350 passengers and 580 crew.

The BBC reports ship is expected to resume its voyage to Genoa once the victims are taken off the ship and the injured have received treatment.
