US to resume aid to Honduras

6:04 am on 6 March 2010

The United States is resuming aid to Honduras. The programme was suspended after the overthrow of President Manuel Zelaya in June last year.

US Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton says President Porfirio Lobo, who took office in January, was democratically elected and has taken the right steps to unify the country.

She says his actions deserve a normalisation of relationships with the United States.

A total of $US450 million in international aid was frozen by the European Union, Venezuela, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
