Police in the United States say the man who shot two police officers at a Washington DC underground station that serves the Department of Defense, has died.

Patrick Bedell, aged 36, from California, was shot in the head in the incident at Pentagon Metro on Thursday evening.

The two officers, who were grazed by bullets, were treated in hospital.

Police say they have found no immediate connection to terrorism.

But an internet posting believed to have been posted by Bedell suggested he harboured ill-feelings toward the government and the armed forces.

Pentagon police chief Richard Keevill said it appeared that Bedell had acted alone.
