Floodwaters continue to rise in St George

Floodwaters continue to rise in the southern Queensland town of St George.

The Balonne River rose 12.6 metres overnight and is continuing to rise.

The ABC reports the river tipped to go as high as 14 metres: about 80% of houses in the area could be threatened.

Preparations for total evacuation are underway by the SES.

West of St George the town of Bollon is completely cut off. However, cafe owner Laurie Bateman says the town is in good spirits.

Meanwhile, floodwaters have fallen in the south-west town of Charleville.

The weather bureau says rainfall is expected to ease in most of south Queensland on Saturday.
