Cyprus police say tests have confirmed that a body discovered at a cemetery in Nicosia belongs to the former president Tasos Papadopoulos.

Mr Papadopoulos was president for five years until February 2008 and died in December that year from lung cancer.

His body was stolen from his grave three months ago, just before the anniversary of his death, but it remains unclear why it was taken, the BBC reports.

It was found by police after a tip-off.
