German poker robbery suspect surrenders

Updated at 2:40 pm on 18 March 2010

A 21-year-old man has turned himself in to authorities investigating an armed raid on a high-stakes poker tournament in Germany.

The heist took place in one of Berlin's swankiest hotels in broad daylight earlier this month, when four masked thieves snatched 242,000 euros amid chaotic scenes caught on TV.

Media reports in Germany say the man hasn't given away his accomplices, who sped away in a black Mercedes-Benz, or revealed the location of the money.

The tournament, the German leg of the European Poker Tour, attracted around 950 participants, including German tennis legend Boris Becker, with 4.7 million euros in prize money up for grabs.
