Terreblanche funeral held in South Africa

9:01 am on 10 April 2010

The funeral of South African white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche has taken place in the town of Ventersdorp without major incident.

Thousands of mourners attended the ceremony, and several police and army units were deployed to prevent possible clashes between supporters of Mr Terreblanche and the local black population.

Two black workers have been charged with the murder, at his farm last weekend, allegedly sparked by a dispute over pay.

The ceremony at the Afrikaner Protestant Church ended with some mourners performing Nazi-style salutes, the BBC reports.

Mr Terreblanche led the Afrikaner Resistance movement, the AWB.
