NATO troops leave remote Afghanistan valley

NATO has pulled troops out of an isolated area in Afghanistan on the border with Pakistan, as part of a strategic review of troop deployments.

Even though the Korengal valley, in Kunar province, is a Taliban stronghold, NATO decided that continued military operations there only served to fuel the insurgency.

NATO says troops began leaving the Korengal valley in March, but they could still respond to crises in the area if needed.
