6:13 pm on 17 April 2010

The United Nations says four Spanish soldiers working with its peacekeeping mission in Haiti have died in a helicopter crash.

The crash occurred near the town of Fonds Verettes, near Haiti's border with the Dominican Republic.

The cause was not immediately known.

The BBC reports Spain has about 450 soldiers in Haiti helping with aid and reconstruction after the earthquake on 12 January in which an estimated 230,000 people were killed.
