The head of the Victoria Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority is refusing to stand down despite admitting that she went to the hairdressers on Black Saturday and also met her biographer.

The firestorms swept across the Australian state on 7 February 2009, killing 173 people.

Former police commissioner Christine Nixon has come under intense pressure to resign since admitting that she left the emergency control centre for dinner on Black Saturday, and also had two other appointments the same day.

The ABC reports Ms Nixon appeared at the Bushfires Royal Commission for a second time this week, where she contradicted earlier evidence about her actions on the day.
