Iran calls for worldwide nuclear disarmament

3:08 pm on 18 April 2010

Iran has held its own international nuclear summit, a week after a meeting of world leaders in Washington.

The country is accused of trying to secretly build a nuclear bomb and of blocking United Nations inspectors.

But the ABC reports that Iran is now positioning itself as the world's leading voice for nuclear disarmament.

It calls the United States the world's only atomic criminal, for dropping bombs on Japan in World War Two.

At least 50 nations attended the conference, mostly from developing countries.

Four of the world's nuclear powers were also there - including Russia and China.
