Zimbabwe' president, Robert Mugabe, has marked the country's 30th anniversary of independence vowing to ensure control of all foreign and white-owned businesses passes into the hands of black people.

In an unprecedented move, Mr Mugabe also told the crowd of 30,000 people in the capital Harare he wants an end to politically motivated violence.

He called for greater tolerance and respect regardless of race or political affiliation.

Human rights groups say Mr Mugabe is responsible for the torture and murder of thousands of Zimbabweans in the past 30 years.
