Details are emerging of a series of massacres reportedly carried out by Ugandan rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A UN agency says members of the Lord's Resistance Army killed 189 people during three days of raids on villages in the northeast last week.
Among them were 45 civilians who were reportedly hacked to death in a Catholic church on 26 December.
A rebel spokesman has denied responsibility for the killings, which follow a collapse in the peace process.
Some reports say more than 100 people were killed in the church alone.
Troops from Uganda, Congo and South Sudan launched a joint assault on LRA bases in the Garamba National Park on 14 December after their leader again failed to sign a deal to end his rebellion against the Ugandan government.
