Whale excrement seen as ocean fertiliser

Scientists in Australia say they have found that whale excrement can help combat global warming by acting as a natural fertiliser in the ocean and improving its ability to absorb carbon dioxide.

Research from the Australian Antarctic Division suggested whales could fertilise surface waters with iron-rich excrement, allowing the whole eco-system to send more carbon down into deeper waters.
