New York ferry collides with pier

A ferry has crashed into a pier on Staten Island in New York, injuring at least 60 people.

The NYPD told the BBC that the ferry had made a "hard landing" at the St George ferry terminal on Saturday morning. A mechanical problem is blamed. Between 200 - 300 people were on board.

The Andrew J Barberi was the same ferry that crashed into a pier on Staten Island in 2003, killing 11 people.

The Staten Island ferry service carries 20 million people per year between Staten Island and lower Manhattan.
