A 10-year-old Dutch child was the only person to survive a passenger plane crash at Tripoli airport in Libya, that killing more than 100 people on board.

The Airbus A330 crashed on landing at Tripoli airport after a flight from Johannesburg, Afriqiyah Airways says

Officials say 93 passengers and 11 crew were on board the Airbus 330. Of those killed, 61 were Dutch nationals, the Dutch tourism board has said.

The child was taken to hospital and underwent surgery for multiple fractures to both legs. Libyan TV showed the 10-year-old in a hospital bed with a bandaged head and wearing an oxygen mask.

Afriqiyah Airways is a Libyan airline that was founded in 2001. The 11 crew were all thought to be Libyan nationals.

Libya's Transport Minister Mohamed Zidan said an investigation would be launched to establish the cause of the crash, but has ruled out a terrorist attack.

The weather was sunny and clear at the time of the crash.
