Privacy promise by Google

Google is promising to end its practice of recording data from home wireless networks, after complaints from privacy watchdogs around the world.

The internet search company collected the names and internet addresses of household wireless networks, at the same time as it recorded pictures from moving vehicles for its street view service.

The company says it's recently discovered it has also been picking up data from unprotected networks. Google says this was a mistake.
