New privacy settings promised by Facebook

The founder of Facebook says the online social network will roll out new privacy settings for its more than 400 million users.

In a column in The Washington Post newspaper, Mark Zuckerberg admitted Facebook "missed the mark" over recent privacy concerns.

Facebook has faced increasing criticism from civil liberties advocates, consumer groups and lawmakers in the United States.

European Union data protection officials have described recent privacy changes as unacceptable.

The Wall Street Journal has highlighted how, under certain circumstances, Facebook has been sending the user name or ID of the person clicking on an ad to the relevant advertiser.
