Gunmen have shot and killed an Iraqi politician who was elected to parliament in March.

Bashar al-Ageidi was ambushed by two men outside his house in Mosul and later died of his wounds. He was a candidate for the Iraqiya coalition led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.

Mr Allawi's bloc narrowly won the elections.

The BBC reports no group has so far said it carried out the attack. However, one of the gunmen has been captured.

Mosul is about 350km north of Baghdad.
