Objects from Scott's expedition to be auctioned

Objects from Scott of the Antarctic's ill-fated 1910 South Pole expedition are to be auctioned in England.

A compass, photographs, letters and a journal written during the expedition are among the items to be sold on Wednesday.

The items are from the attic of Jackie Church, of Derby, whose grandfather Edward McKenzie was one of Scott's supporting crew members.

Captain Scott and four of his companions died on their return from the South Pole.

The BBC reports the items have attracted attention from as far away as New Zealand and South Africa.

Mr McKenzie, along with other crew members, remained behind while Scott and four other men travelled to the South Pole.

He later passed on the objects he had collected to his family.
