Tornado ravages northern NSW township

A tornado has ripped through a New South Wales north coast township, severely damaging about 12 homes and hospitalising two people.

The waterspout hit Lennox Heads on Thursday morning, with accompanying rain, hail and wind causing widespread damage.

Rooves were ripped off buildings, several caravans and motor homes overturned and trees uprooted.

Callers to ABC North Coast reported falls of more than 270mm of rain.
