The Australian Labour Party has taken an election-winning lead since Julia Gillard became Prime Minister.
The ABC reports Labour's primary vote has climbed to 47% in the latest Herald/Nielson poll.
Ms Gillard has a 21 percentage point lead over the Opposition Leader Tony Abbott as preferred prime minister, on 58% to his 32%.
The new Prime Minister will spend the weekend deciding her new frontbench. Her predecessor, Kevin Rudd, is expected to be offered the Foreign Minister portfolio.
A general election is expected in October.
