A new world record for the biggest bowl of porridge has been set at the annual Cupar Highland Games in Scotland.

A breakfast of 690 litres of porridge which could feed 2000 people was cooked at the event in Fife.

It is more than double the existing record, which according to the organisers was 300 litres.

The BBC reports that firefighters added water to 80 kilograms of oats before the mixture was heated and cooked for several hours in a special bowl measuring 1.5 metres in height and width.

The record was confirmed by an official from Guinness World Records.
