Investigations are underway in northern England into the handling of one of the biggest manhunts there for many years.

The search for Raoul Moat, 37, ended early on Saturday when he shot and killed himself in the town of Rothbury, in northern England.

He went on the run a week ago after shooting his former girlfriend, her new partner and a police officer within two days of leaving prison.

Prison authorities had warned that he might pose a risk to his former partner and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been asked to investigate.
