Obama promises help for traumatised war veterans

United States President Barack Obama has promised more help for war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

In a weekly radio address, Mr Obama called this a long overdue step, and promised that America will always be there for its former soldiers.

The aim is to make it easier for veterans to receive federal benefits.

Veterans groups have criticised the current rules for being inflexible as they require applicants to provide records of a specific event that has caused their condition.

According to the new rule, they would only need to show that their conditions of service contributed to the syndrome.
