Another boat of asylum seekers found by Australia

7:14 pm on 15 July 2010

Another boatload of asylum seekers was found on Monday night near the Ashmore Islands, off the north-west coast of Australia.

Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor says the group will be taken to Christmas Island for processing.

Australia plans to establish a regional refugee centre, offshore, to process immigration claims. Its location is not yet settled.

It was the second reported arrival of a boat of asylum seekers since the policy was announced by Prime Minister Julia Gillard on 6 July.

More than 70 boats have reached Australia so far this year.
