US Vice President-elect Joe Biden will visit southwest Asia later this week as part of a congressional fact-finding tour.
Details of the itinerary have not been issued for security reasons
Senator Biden is making the trip in his capacity as the outgoing chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He assumes the vice presidency on 20 January.
He has not yet resigned as the Democratic senator from Delaware.
Senator Biden will be accompanied by the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator John Kerry and three other colleagues.
