Nauru is again putting its hand up to accept asylum seekers from Australia, as it did until 2008.
With detention facilities overstretched on Christmas Island, Nauru is worried that Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard favours East Timor as an alternative location for a regional refugee centre.
Meanwhile, the ABC reports two more boatloads of asylum seekers have arrived at Christmas Island in the past 24 hours.
