Two Americans serving with the international force in Afghanistan are missing, believed captured by the Taliban.
An Afghan official says the two men were seized in Logar province after an exchange of fire with the militants on Friday, the BBC reports.
A spokesman for the governor of Logar province said the men ignored warnings and set out on their own from a US base on Friday evening into a known Taliban area.
The US military has offered a $US20,000 reward for information leading to the safe release of the men, however the BBC cites unconfirmed reports saying one of the two has been killed.
Seventy members of the international force have been killed in July - the highest monthly total since the invasion nine years ago.
