More than 400,000 Toyota cars are to be recalled in the United States because of steering problems.

Toyota says it's recalling Avalon models made between 2002 and 2004 because the steering lock bar could break under some conditions.

The BBC reports the company is also recalling some Lexus LX 470 SUV models because of a faulty steering shaft.

More than eight million vehicles weere recalled worldwide in February over problems with sticking accelerator pedals.

Recalls in the car industry are common, but Toyota has issued an unprecedented 14 recalls so far this year.
