Coalition losing against Taliban in Afghanistan - Pakistan

6:43 am on 4 August 2010

President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan says the international community is losing the fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

He told a French newspaper, Le Monde, that the international coalition has already lost the battle for the hearts and minds of Afghanistan's people.

He also criticised comments made by British Prime Minister David Cameron about Pakistan's approach to the Taliban.

Mr Cameron said last week that some elements in Pakistan looked both ways when it came to the Taliban.

Mr Zadari has issued a statement saying it is unfortunate that certain individuals continue to express doubts and fears about Pakistan's determination to fight the Taliban to the end.
