Welfare workers in the Northern Territory of Australia have told an inquiry of severe malnourishment among young Aborigines.

They say it is so bad in some remote communities that intervention by international aid agencies is needed.

New accusations of neglect have been presented to government-appointed investigators in Darwin.

Dr Robert Parker of the Australian Medical Association said child malnutrition is a challenge in Aboriginal communities beset with poverty.
