Bainimarama looks to align Fiji with China

Fiji's interim prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama says he wants to do away with traditional ties with New Zealand and Australia and align the country with China.

Commodore Bainimarama is visiting China. He told the Fiji-Live website that it is the one country that understands the reforms he is trying to implement.

He says he is prepared to continue trade with New Zealand and Australia, but at a political level, it makes more sense to work with China.

He says China is the only nation that can help Fiji in its reforms because the Chinese think outside the box.

Commodore Bainimarama seized power in Fiji in December 2006. It was the four coup since there since 1987.
