An anti-government protest has turned into a riot in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
Hundreds of youths destroyed police vehicles, smashed windows and looted stores around parliament on Tuesday. The riot lasted about three hours.
It followed an earlier peaceful protest by thousands of people calling for early elections.
Latvia had to borrow 7.5 billion euro ($US9.97 billion) International Monetary Fund and EU loan last year to avoid an economic collapse.
