Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd has cancelled a planned trip to Papua New Guinea, India and Switzerland next week.

Mr Rudd is staying at hime instead to work on the government's response to the global financial crisis.

The PM has decided not to attend the World Economic Forum in Switzerland next Friday. Trips to PNG and India earlier in the week are also cancelled.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to have heart bypass surgery on Saturday. Mr Rudd was scheduled to meet him on Wednesday.

A special meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum in Port Moresby has been postponed.

The meeting was scheduled for Tuesday to discuss Fiji's membership of the regional body. However Commodore Frank Bainimarama says he will not attend because of the recent floods in Fiji.

PNG's Prime Minister Michael Somare says the Forum meeting has been rescheduled for 10 February.
