Hundreds of people have become ill in the United States due to a salmonella outbreak in California, Colorado, and Minnesota that has been linked to eggs from a farm in Iowa.

The BBC reports almost four million eggs are being recalled nationwide by Wright County Egg of Iowa.

The US Food and Drug Administration said salmonella outbreaks have increased fourfold since May. There are inquiries into the illness in 13 states.

The eggs were packaged under the names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp.
