The US State Department is reported to be preparing to announce the re-launch of direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
They could be the first such substantive discussions for nine years.
The United States is expected to issue a statement over the next few days which will include a timetable and other details that will serve as the basis for the negotiations.
