A traffic jam extending about 100 kilometres on the expressway linking the Chinese capital Beijing with inner Mongolia has so far lasted nine days.
Vehicles are backed up because of heavy traffic, road works and break-downs, the BBC reports.
Locals have set up temporary stalls selling food and drink, and some travellers are passing the time by playing cards or chess.
The motorway, part of the Beijing-Tibet expressway, is heavily used by lorries carrying coal from Inner Mongolia.
