The New Zealand Government is donating $100,000 to flood relief efforts in Solomon Islands.

Nine people have died and more than 1000 families have been forced to leave their homes after severe flooding.

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says the offer, through NZ AID, is an initial contribution to groups who are helping communities with shelter, food and water.

Mr McCully says it will also help to establish a disaster centre and to charter ships where road access has been cut.
