Bulls player Bees Roux has been arrested on suspicion of beating a police officer to death and will appear in a South African court charged with murder.
Police say the officer was found lying in a street of Pretoria, on Saturday morning.
He died due to extensive injuries.
The 28-year-old Roux is a 115kg prop who plays for the Super rugby side the Bulls.
The Bulls, who won last year's Super Rugby tournament, say they have no more information about the events.
The is Roux's first season with the Bulls.
