Military helicopter crashes during drug chase

A military helicopter has crashed in Venezuela, killing 10 National Guard soldiers who were chasing suspected drug traffickers close to the border with Colombia.

Venezuela is a major route for Colombian cocaine headed to Europe and the United States.

Much of its 2200km border with Colombia is rugged terrain where guerrillas, drug traffickers and paramilitary fighters are active.

This week Venezuelan authorities found four tonnes of cocaine on a farm. It was the largest seizure in recent years.
