Greek police are investigating the discovery of an object they believe could be a covert listening device in the Athens office of Greek Olympic Committee president Minos Kyriakou.

Attica regional police have confirmed they were called to Mr Kyriakou's office this week to investigate a "suspicious object that appeared like a microphone for monitoring conversations".

The object in question has been sent for further examination.

The investigation comes just before the election on 10 February for the new president of the committee, which Mr Kyriakou is contesting with Spyros Kapralos, chairman of the Athens Stock Exchange.
